GDPR - Data Protection

The General Data Protection Regulation comes into force on 25 May 2018. The purpose of the Regulation is to enhance existing Data Protection legislation which ensures that personal data which can identify an individual, i.e. name, address, email address, is properly protected and safeguarded by the organizations that hold it and only processed for the purpose which is specified.

The purpose of Markinch Community Council holding information pertaining to individual residents is solely for the purpose of administering enquiries on behalf of those individuals. Markinch Community Council will not hold personal information (including contact details) once a particular issue has been resolved. Markinch Community Council will not pass on personal information to any third party except where it is necessary for progressing the specific enquiry for which the information was collected and only with your consent.  For example, it may be necessary to pass a name and address on to Fife Council or Police Scotland in order that a resident’s complaint can be properly investigated.

The purpose of Markinch Community Council holding information on businesses, small traders, clubs and societies is to issue alerts, process bookings and administer payments in relation to events administered by the Community Council or passing on information in relation to funding opportunities.  Markinch Community Council will not share personal details relating to these businesses with any third party except when necessary to pursue the purposes mentioned above.

Markinch Community Council keeps a permanent record of its activities in the form of minutes of its meetings. These meetings are open to the public and minutes are routinely published online and can also be made available to any interested party on request. Attendance by members of the public at one of these public meetings may be recorded in the minutes. If a member of the public raises an issue at a public meeting, details of the issue may be recorded which may, of course, indicate where that individual lives. However, no personal information other than that provided in the public forum will be added to the minutes by Markinch Community Council.
